Vertical conveyor boosted Alfaroc’s warehouse efficiency

Alfaroc Logistics Oy is a Finnish company specializing in warehousing and in-house logistics solutions. The company offers its customers comprehensive warehousing services, internal logistics operations, and 3PL solutions, along with value-added services such as labeling, packaging, and assembly. Alfaroc operates in Päijät-Häme, Tuusula, Vantaa, Järvenpää, and Rauma.

Challenge: slow and labor-intensive picking process

Alfaroc utilizes mezzanines in its warehouses for picking small goods and providing value-added services. Before implementing Ferroplan’s solution, full pallets were lifted to the mezzanine using forklifts. After picking up or value-added services, individual packages were lowered one by one back to the ground floor, again using a forklift. The process was slow and consumed both time and forklift capacity.

“Lowering packages always required a reach truck and a driver, making the process inefficient and frustratingly complex,” explains Lasse Tarvainen, Chief Operating Officer at Alfaroc.

Solution: Ferroplan’s vertical conveyor and roller conveyors

To streamline its warehouse operations, Alfaroc selected an Interroll vertical conveyor solution delivered by Ferroplan, which is equipped with roller conveyors. The new solution enables packages to move directly from the mezzanine to the ground-floor dispatch area without requiring unnecessary intermediate steps or the use of a forklift. The vertical conveyor also allows goods to be moved from the ground floor back to the mezzanine, adding flexibility to daily operations.

The vertical conveyor is now an integrated part of Alfaroc’s small goods picking process. It has significantly accelerated work and freed up forklift capacity for other tasks.

“We have streamlined our operations. We save working time, and occupational safety has improved, as the heavy and complicated task of lowering goods with a reach truck is no longer necessary. Packages are now moved down safely and efficiently,” Tarvainen sums up.

Although no precise figures have yet been measured, practical experience shows that the vertical conveyor has already improved efficiency and workflow. As volumes grow, the benefits are expected to increase even further.

Smooth collaboration with Ferroplan

Cooperation with Ferroplan went exceptionally well from the very beginning. Delivery schedules were met, and user training for the equipment was well organized. The entire project was easy and flexible from start to finish,” Tarvainen concludes.
